CarePods, Inc. was founded by the Nikolaides family in 2007. While Mom was going through treatment for breast cancer, son Kevin, 12, wanted to do something to help his Mom and others going through chemotherapy. He began collecting money from his friends at a high school football game. Kevin and his siblings, Eric and Kira, along with Mom and Dad brainstormed on how to use the money. Music is important to everyone in the family and they came up with the idea of giving iPods to people going through chemotherapy treatments. The $30 that Kevin collected grew to $12,000 in the first year. Since 2007, close to 200 iPods and iTunes cards have been given out to children and adults undergoing cancer treatment.
